The Day Elizabeth Died Lyrics by Oliver Tompsett

2020

[ANNE VAUX]
It was the 24th of March 1603.
[THE PLOTTERS]
The day that ended her tyranny.
[ALL]
The day Elizabeth died.
[ANNE VAUX]
With an inch of makeup on her face,
She was braced to die without an heir
[ALL]
Who's to succeed her?
[ANNE VAUX]
That's still up in the air.
Some say she died of a broken heart.
Others say she poisoned by her vanity.
Forlorn and withdrawn,
it's clear she wouldn't make the dawn,
so they laid her in bed and stayed by her side.
[ANNE VAUX]
She'd lost the power of speech.
[ALL]
Speech.
[ANNE VAUX]
She was so weak.
[ALL]
Weak.
[ANNE VAUX]
Hеr time was running out.
[ALL]
Death was at her door.
[ANNE VAUX]
Shе put her hand to her crown at the mention of Jame's name.
That is to say, she approved him to succeed her.
[ALL]
And, so it was done.
Some say she died of a broken heart.
Others say she poisoned by her vanity.
[ANNE VAUX]
Frail and depressed,
but she wouldn't take to rest
so they sent for the bishop
and prayed for her soul.
And, her flesh turned cold.
[THE PEACEKEEPERS]
We mourned for her.
She was our Queen.
And for 45 years, she had reigned supreme.
[THE PLOTTERS]
We did not mourn for her.
She was our captor.
Now, this our rapture.
We have a new hope.
This could be all we need and more.
[ALL]
God, save the King.
Long live the King.
May the King live for forever.
May the King live for forever.
