Queer Trans Prairie Tourism Company Lyrics by Rae Spoon

0

[Chorus]
Lesbian, gay, bisexual
Transgender and transsexual
It’s better to ask if you don’t know
A message from the Queer Trans Prairie Tourism Co
[spoken]
It’s a country song, ‘cause it’s in Calgary
[Verse 1]
Moustaches, cowboys and the Stampede
You might not think there’s a queer trans scene
But Brokeback Mountain filmed some scenes
Fifteen miles from Calgary
[Chorus]
Lesbian, gay, bisexual
Transgender and transsexual
It’s better to ask if you don’t know
A message from the Queer Trans Prairie Tourism Co
[spoken]
Oh yeah, that part was the sing-a-long, so you have to start memorizing it
So Alberta, there’s, there’s a very fun provincial system there, where strategic voting for the leftist part, most leftist party often means voting Conservative. So that, there’s no music for that but
[Verse 2]
Danielle Smith’s Wildrose Party
Thinks that we’re too rainbowy
Harper’s scared of gay families
Cause k.d. lang threatens masculinity
[spoken]
She threatens my masculinity
[Chorus]
Lesbian, gay, bisexual
Transgender and transsexual
It’s better to ask if you don’t know
A message from the Queer Trans Prairie Tourism Co
[spoken]
There’s an MP in Alberta, his name’s Rob Anders. And there was a bill that has now gone through but he didn’t want it to go through the House of Commons of the Senate called Bill C-78 because it was for trans people to have rights in the Bill of Rights too, but what he said was “If this bill gets passed, trans people run into the washrooms and terrorize people.” And I like to think that I’m self-reflective, so i thought a lot about it and I’m like “Am i terrorizing people?” Like run in and I’m like [hissing noise] and my friends were like, “No you’re not!” so maybe he just meant Opposite Day
[Verse 3]
It is getting better
Pride is getting bigger
Now Rob Anders has to hold his pee
Cause he’s scared of trans equality
[Chorus]
Lesbian, gay, bisexual
Transgender and transsexual
It’s better to ask if you don’t know
A message from the Queer Trans Prairie Tourism Code
[spoken]
And our only show as a band for Gay in the Grasses at the Unitarian Church in Calgary. And they were really nice, so we put out a shout out for them
[Bridge]
Unitarians let us use their space
Cowboys in a tender embrace
Calgary Flames
Calgary flamers
Skates don’t make you straight
School boards can’t stop the GSAs
Allies save the day
Go Prairie queer, trans and gay!
[spoken]
This is a singalong
[Chorus]
Lesbian, gay, bisexual
Transgender and transsexual
It’s better to ask if you don’t know
A message from the Queer Trans Prairie Tourism Co
[spoken]
Thank you, that was beautiful
