“The Statement” Lyrics by Randall Mance

“The Statement”

A wise man once said “you only talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts”......so just maybe this is why I’m a poet./ But how can you censor passion and raw emotion?/That’s going to cause a commotion/ riots and uproars/ having me feeling abhor/ Lately I’ve been hearing ”Randall you have to filter your feelings”....nigga what for?/ I’m drawing a blank and I need someone to help me fill in/ what is it that phrase people say when you’re too emotional?/ get out of your feelings/ high off love or doped up on depression something we don’t want to be dealing/ wrestle with our thoughts/ when we’re all luchadors masking our identities/ but we mask our pain behind these drugs/ and it’s really sad that the only time we’re being blunt is when we’re facing one/ I must have missed the memo/ since when is having feelings been synonymous with weakness/ I need y'all to peep this/ how can you get of your feelings when even the word in is in the word feelings/ I mean do yall say that phrase to your mother?/ Anyone want to know the culprits behind this?/look at one another/because y’all trying to put a cap on something that’s so fulfilling/what are you going to say to your children when you tell them you love them and they say bitch get out of your feelings.
Do you know how hard it is to be such an expressive person in a quiet world/ repression isn’t in my arsenal Our voices are weapons/ I mean the only time this generation gets loud is in a session/ but tonight I want to show all of you my favorite art form.... self-expression

Twitter is terrible/ we get on and act like a bunch of philosophers to our followers/ saying the most basic of the things like/ “man these niggas ain’t shit”/ duh! Y’all act like yall saying something new/ plantation owners were saying that in 1822

A male expressing his feelings is a rarity/ I’m talking Mewtwo, big foot and that monster known as the loch ness/ but let’s put a lock on this topic/ you can’t lock pick the lock of logic with the tools set of nonsense/nor can you stop or top this ice cream cold flow/ I’m all about progression/I even tone down the aggression/but when I do go bananas when I spit/ I split into two different personalities/ it’s Randall the man and Randall the poet/ one cool, calm, collective/ other heated, passionate aggressive/ before a performance one is nervous/ the other more anxious than a person waiting in line for them Jordans these niggas be copping/ I just gave y’all a sundae and sprinkled my traits on as the toppings......ice cream cold flow/ banana when I split
Those are just ice cream barz but

My life is barz/ I’m a convict with concepts/ but I don’t con victims into believing my convictions make me a victim/ however I do contest any shot that is thrown my way when my character is misconstrued as a con man/ how can the truth never be seen or read when the file on my life has never been confidential/ condemned as a con artist but all this artist does is shed light on situations using dark gritty spectrums as contrasts/ or how about we compare and contrast the composition of these other conscious writers/ when you hear or read their work do they give you those goosebumps and chills/ make you feel something real/ or do you pay less attention because it doesn’t make your soul light up/ If I reach at least one person in this audience then I’ve done my job/ I talk to those that’s dealing with some strife’s/ people run to me when their down because I resuscitate/ man I give niggas life.

This statement should be announced over intercoms/before I start spazzing let me enter calm mode/ woosah/ exhale and take my own breath away/ and I even tried that before but that’s a different story.

See my life is barz/ On the outside i’m a swimming pool that’s only about 5ft/ until you step into my mind and it transforms into an ocean floor/ I’m more deeper than what you see on the surface but I know that can be hard to tell/ Do you want to come swim in these subterranean thoughts or do you need yo hold on to that guard rail./ This is a conscious flow/ a live stream of the chaotic life that I foreshadow/ what I forecast is a chance of heavy brainstorms of enlightening lightning strikes of genius/most males only think with their penis but this pen is what I transcribe as the air that pumps lungs into this whirlwind/ and I’ll be doing this until my world ends/ because the social media and the stereo hypes these stereotypes of a what male is supposed to be I figure I won’t ever have a woman close to me/ but make no mistake right now you’re looking at a man/ but before you can say you’re down to ride/ when things get rocky can you survive the tide?/ that’s just something I need to know/
I can always strive that’s just how I row

See my life is barz/ so you know I have to marry a poet so i’m going to turn Jasmine Mans into Jasmine Mance/But if I can’t bag her I need someone else that’s fluent in barz/ someone that’s going to get on their phone to call their friends like/ "girl you remember that day I went to that open mic looking for some fun?/ I met that dude that spit about his life/ all his work was non fiction/ him being a poet I figured he was good with the tongue but he’s even better with the diction/ he’s sweet as candy I get high off his similes/he has a way with words/ all these other dudes be trying to talk to me and I be like away with your words/ / I condensate just on how we conversate/ I've never been this wet before/ it’s so good to find a man that only schemes with his metaphors/ girl this is truly a nigga I’ve never met before"/

See my life is barz/ so much that when I when I’m on my death bed I’ll still be writing until I run out of ink/ and this wouldn’t be a piece from me if I didn’t talk about death

I don’t spit for change/ I spit to change and inspire/ But the only time people respect you is either when your dead or retire/I want y’all to think about that/ when Michael Jackson was alive he made thriller/ then society portrayed him as the zombie in thriller/hanging kids over the banister he had no control/ but when he was alive he was touching little boys and now he touching yall souls/ what about Jam Master Jay he never talked about that gun rap/ but somebody ran in his studio and then he got hit with that gun clap/ here’s a quick fun fact/ Whitney Houston and I have the same birthday/ August 9th/ that’s two Leos who put their whole life on display without any censorship/ two people with dope lines in their system ain’t that a coincidence
That’s just a remix of a line that I said at our concert generation w/ last three years here I've been taken L’s so I’m guaranteed to get a W

With these pieces it's not about what we giving you it's more about what you take away from it/ this ain't taken but these barz make me a man that's highly trained and highly skilled/ and I speak for JF and MLK anybody that wants to silence me ........I have to be killed
