Raw & Ready: BBC Spoken Word Lyrics by RKZ

2013

Words have a certain charm, don't you think?
An ability to capture a room, a presence to allow world leaders to inspire millions.
They have the ability to start and end wars, pause.
Cause time, flaws,
shores, have a certain beauty to them that could only be accurately captured by words.
I heard a girl speak in the distance, language unknown to me.
But she spoke words beautifully eloquent, endless elegant,
without ever understanding a word she said.
She spoke freely and made me feel like I was floating. Joking.
But I was hoping that one day a voice would kiss my soul,
and paint a picture of a thousands words that could never be explained,
without words. We can speak to spirits and art and share a passion of literature,
to study over the years because regardless of how much dust a page gathers,
words will always, always remain flawless. Yet words can end lives.
Break hearts and divide millions due to conflicting ideologies and false promises,
and I promise. I will do everything in my power to show you the power,
of your voice. And your writing.
Because you can use words just as well as Martin, Kweli, Garvey, Scott-Heron,
Rakim, Nasir, [insert your name here]. Because, why shouldn't you?
Words are free. Words are power. And the power has never left your presence,
just your conscious. Consciously I speak to provide you with the motivation
to express yourself and preach because you CAN. If, you have purpose.
What your worth is? Why you wanna be so perfect? It's subjective,
so chances are it won't even be worth it.
Your purpose could be greater than the desire to be accepted.
Challenge in shallow waters in the depths of perspective.
We neglect our self-respect to accept a world of wrong doing,
confusion and dellusion - we choose the lesser of two evils,
we're just people. But us people made this world what it is today.
By forward planning, down to the word.
Now our words can form foundations for future focus,
fortunate to further formulate and demonstrate how we are,
beautiful regal. Equal. Peaceful. Peace is just a bonus,
to focus, first and foremost our purpose is to be free.
Our words form divisions, form mass opinions, form religions,
but beliefs are my beliefs, and my beliefs aren't written because,
how can you appreciate words without silence?
