What up y'all, it's April G., also known as April G. Showers on YouTube
I'm 41 years old, I'm a single mom
When I was 15 years old and a freshman, I lost my best friend in a school shooting
I was standing right beside her
The school shooter, who was my neighbor, was aiming at a teacher
And missed the teacher, and accidentally shot her instead
From that, I developed PTSD, anxiety, depression
I became a drug addict, my drug of choice was pain pills
I was in active addiction for almost 15 years
I made the decision to go to rehab in August 2011, and I've been clean since August 8, 2011
Recovery has not been easy
I lost both of my siblings
My little brother, who was just 21, to brain cancer in May 2015
My big brother, who was just 46, to cirrhosis of the liver related to alcoholism in February 2018
Six months after my little brother died, I put a gun to my head
I did not pull the trigger, because the thought of my son or my mom finding me
I just couldn't stand the thought of that, thank God
I was a nurse for over 20 years
I had to quit nursing in 2018, due to my health
I was diagnosed with stage C, or stage 3, congestive heart failure in last June
I was given one to five years to live
After I quit nursing, me and my son had to move in with my mom
I was in a state of bad depression
I found reactions, I stated binge watching NoLifeShaq and ScriptWork
Thought I could do that
I started my YouTube channel November 10, 2019, when I was 39
And now I have over 8,700 subscribers
I also do comedy on TikTok
I'm also a writer, and I rap sometimes
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I still struggle today
Life's not easy, things happen, but don't give up no matter what
My life motto is Galatians 6:9, look it up, heh-heh
If I can do it, anybody can do it, I'm living proof
