My feet seem to walk almost as if guided
by forces other than myself. A ghost
in my shell, a breeze to carry me home.
On the way to an inn I know I’m welcomed
for the night or two, I stop and sit
on the wet jags of a river bank, to think,
to breathe. However, disappointing to the state
of my tired ankles, a man rest in the ideal spot.
Avoiding communication, as to be free
from distraction, I try to leave without notice.
 “Why, do you leave without even giving
 a greeting, a simple ‘hello?’”
I explain the busy nature of my work.
 “I see, I see. Tell me, sir, Tell me.
 What did you do to find this life
 of yours? Did you catch it freely?
 Did it crawl up to you? Were you
 water to an airy fish?”
Am I to engage with my fellow man?
Questions of our human question, is he
educated or is he simply a reading fool?
He resembles one who wanders, a hard type,
arms and legs jagged like rocks,
made rough from time outdoors, time
in the open.
 “Let me come with you, let me
 help you along your way. In the case
 of adversity, I know a thing or two
 about strength and virtue.”
Although I insist on the necessities
of isolation, the man follows me anyway!
I try to walk quickly, I grow concerned
with his dragon strength, his shadow breath.
