The Backlog Blues Lyrics by Roxy Radclyffe

GET STICKBLOOD

2025

{SECTION I. "Prospects Calling (Absorption Levels Checked...)"}

Alright Jonas, focus up
Cuz I know me, I've always got a trick up my sleeve
It might seem so easy to drown completely with such a constant onslaught of concepts
But there's a whole world around me waiting to be observed
Layers upon layers of inspiration waiting to be absorbed

So let's peruse a bit!
I've got a clear vision, so I'll investigate existing works of art within realms relevant to it
Even some convenient lists compiling them, from which I can pull and add to my own list!
So that's got today's tasks laid out... oh, wait, here's something else...
This artist actually has a lot more going on than just the one piece I selected, but I might not have enough room for the rest...
And not to mention, there's more from them on the way later this month!
Damn it, you're all supposed to stay static for my sake alone!!

Oh why must you be awaken up again
You're takin me some place new I couldn't see

Alright, you know what, that's okay though
I'll get this person's full batch knocked out before I know it, and then it's onto the rest of my agenda

The rest of my agenda...

So let's assess this to-do list once more...
...What the hell, how has it already surpassed 100?
I could've sworn I got over a dozen done already, and that's still not enough?
For fuck's sake, it's like I can't let one minute go to waste
...Actually, yeah! I just need more dedication!
Ah, hold up though, a buddy's messaging me, containing none other than... a recommendation?
I can't be rude, but I've really got a lot on my plate...
Frankly, this is the absolute last thing I needed right now

Oh why must you be awaken up again
You're takin me some place new I couldn't see
I never would sign up for a trench like this
You're givin me symptoms of the backlog blues

{SECTION II. "Honors Trawling (Get It Up if You Wanna Keep Up!)"}

Alright, fuck that noise, I'm locking in for real now
I'll be the undefeated champion of consuming media

Imma gobble it all up
Imma gobble it all the fuck up, faster than you can even imagine

They always say "You'll never hear all the music you wanna hear within your lifetime"
But that doesn't stop me from trying!
They'd probably say the same for movies & TV & books & games
But that doesn't stop me from trying!
Nothing will ever stop me from trying!

However many hours it may take
I'm willing to make the sacrifice
Every time my body screams at me "Please eat" is an opportunity for me to watch something
And every time my brain screams at me "Please get back to work" is an opportunity for me to listen to something
And every time a friend sends an invitation to play is an opportunity to cross a game off the list
I haven't yet found such immediately convenient moments to squeeze in some reading but I'm sure I will eventually

However many hours it may take
I know I'll reach the end some lovely day
It's all I need, I'm balls deep in media
I'll get each piece down to absolute zero
You'd better never question me on this
I'm making a goddamn promise here
I can feel the gain already
I'm so full of media, it's coursing through my veins

{SECTION III. "Objects Falling (Media No Longer My Friend...)"}

...But let me guess
That stack of sessions still wasn't enough, was it?
It's really gonna take some drastic measures
Like for one thing, increasing the playback rate of everything

(FOREVER VIEW AT 2X SPEED
FOREVER VIEW AT 2X SPEED
FOREVER VIEW AT 2X SPEED
FOREVER VIEW AT 2X SPEED)

Then associate-wise, I'll begin by letting unsuspecting messengers know that recommending things to me is completely off-limits
I must reject your friendly gestures
Blocking every suggestion link that comes my way
Even if they meant no harm, they couldn't possibly comprehend what was just inflicted by adding to my backlog

I stay diligent about this, avoiding any other locations that may be prone to letting intriguing-sounding pieces of media leak into my consciousness
If I'm in a call and the conversation shifts in this direction, I'll be quick to mute it on my end
And any site that tries to automatically give me suggestions will find I've already used a browser extension to delete those sections entirely
It has never been more true for me that ignorance is bliss than it is right now

And god I fucking hate New Music Friday
I dread it every week, the obligations set to arrive at my table
Any time I see that nobody I'm particularly interested in is dropping, it's like a gift directly from the goddess of optimization, sparing her wrath and allowing me a little more time to catch up

I now find myself in fierce combat with the fact that I love everything
My wide-open range turning out to be a detriment to one's sanity
Leaving tons of angles vulnerable to instant temptation
What if art itself has become my enemy...?
