Today/
I'm talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit/
Where were you when he was 2/
Where were you when he was 12/
Where were you when he was 18, and how come you didn't know he had a pistol/
And where is his father, and why don't you know where he is/
I think this child, deserves an answer at some point in his lifetime/
50 percent drop out rate/
I'm telling you, and people in jail/
And women having children by 5,6 different men/
Under what excuse, I want someone to love me?/
And as SOON as you have it, you forget to parent/
Grandmother, mother, great grandmother in the same room/
Raising children/
And the child knows nothing about love or respect of any one of the three of them/
All this child knows I gimme gimme gimme/
I want more and I deserve it/
I deserve an answer I have expectations you do not meet/
Spare the rod Spoil the child/
Yet the rod is hidden in the mothers guilt/
Because the cage built around him is slowly building in his brain as well/
And statistics say he will be dead by 21/
At 21 you turn into an O.G. in most cages/
At 16 your liable to have a shirt with wings, your picture and your name on it/
At 14 you've explored dungeons of feminine secrets/
And if you haven't your considered a faggot 'cause by 12 you should have been/
Studying sexual intercourse and by 10 you should have held your first gun/
They say the children, are excelling in this cage their such quick learners/
I swear they're taking AP classes on how to be a bad-ass/
9,8,7 you should have said your first curse word and my god how time flies when your, just tryna stay alive/
By 6 your father should have left and your a man/
By 5 your father should have left and your a man/
By 4 your father should have left and your a man/
By 3 you should already know how to pick up some sort of ball and/
Hone your skills to be a star or/
Be making drum jungle music as the outsiders call it/
By 2 you should be lucky to be alive so full of malnutrition/
By 1 your on your own/
Truth is you've been on your own since an embryo/
But those who grow in this cage are the strongest warriors known to this weak continent/
Why make it convenient for the weak/
Why not, show them what we have learned in our own curriculum because we seem to be failing their schooling systems/
Dual enrollment since birth with no instructor to teach us but professor past, professor mistake, and the TA regret/
Today I am here to ask,
Where are the parents who were supposed to raise us to be better than them/
The ones who have said, I want you to do better than I did/
The parent I hear today are the, "don't worry what everyone else is doing" and then turn around and tell me "Billy got an A on his test, why don't I"/
But I'm my mind I'm confused because/
I'm not supposed to be giving a fuck what billy is doing, I'm tryna do me/
Fuck he and everybody with an A/
I got other stuff to do you want me to clean the house and, babysit, and get an A/
Does Billy, clean the house and, babysit/
Does Billy, have the same struggles and consequences for not bonding with his sisters and cleaning the kitchen does he get whippings/
And/
Even if he did fuck em/
Because I'm sure Billy has an entire different world to go to where Billy isn't caged, and, fucked 2 days from Sunday when it's club night and you gone and I'm tryna do these math problems/
I got a vast ocean of problems not even education can solve/
Humor me tutor/
I'll leave you in a stupor with my superior knowledge of ounces and grams/
Clips, thief hints, ball handling skills, 808s/
I probably have more life experience than your whole lineage and yet the FCAT is a foreign language to me/
But Yet the daughters I see around me, they too are excelling just as well in There studies because/
At 16 their pregnant/
Even though by the time they hit 15 they have already taken care of 2 kids that aren't even theirs/
By, 14 they learn to apply extra beauty with the perfect strokes of Michael Angelo/
And by 13 they probably know how to use a condom, or at least know what it is/
And by 12 there making dinner, taking over for the woman who never taught her to cook in the first place/
By 11 she's figured out how. Young boys say I love you and, she's mediocre at saying it back but she's learning and by 10,9, and 8 she's not quite sure what this world is and who's supposed to be around/
She has 20 uncles & no father/
But she starts to realize this must be normal because, every one of her friends has, the exact same uncles and no father/
7,6,5 she has learned how to talk back she doesn't understand the things mommy is saying to her and she's frustrated/
4 and she's starting to wanna wear leather pants and heels like mommy because, monkey see monkey do/
And her dumb ass momma think it's cute/
Skip 3 and by 2, she probably seen more shit happen than she'll ever learn in school/
And by 1 she's forgotten everything up to that point/
And everyone's looking at a finger to point because the parents are pointing to the white man and the children just go along with it but in the back of our minds/
We have our eyes set on our birth givers/
But going against the grain leaves nothing but friction/
And welt marks across your face for the disrespect/
So we send two eagles up/
One aimed at the white, one aimed at the parents/
And we can't trust anybody/
Because we've been lied to so many times by both sides we can't even trust each other, in due time we turn on our brothers/
Because when you put your whole paycheck into a pair of shoes and you step on the ONLY thing I have to take pride in/
It hurts/
And the African is not fond of disrespect/
Blood across the nike check/
Mic check, I called out sick Friday but I still need my check/
Got arrested in his place of business 20 min. After/
Because he murdered the man who stepped on the only thing he had to take pride in/
Why is that the only thing he had to take pride in/
".....Today"
