Ambition Rap Lyrics by Soul II Soul

Club Classics Vol. One (10th Anniversary Edition)

1989

[Intro: Jazzie B & Will]
Will, my main man (My, my man, my, my, my man Jazzie B)
Soul II Soul posse
I'm me (My, my man, my, my, my man Jazzie B)
Soul II Soul posse
[Verse 1: Jazzie B & Will]
Ambition is achieved (With what?)
Well, with an objective to give, to get what I give
With a perception for perfection, hmm
Always moving in the right direction (Yeah, but for who?)
For me and for you, yes, it's true
'Cause this is what we have to do (What's that, mate?)
Well, develop it and make it grow
You know, the food of life, all the seed we done sow
[Chorus: Soul II Soul & Jazzie B]
Moving in the right direction, we're always
In the right direction (That's where we're going), we're always (Ha)
Moving in the right direction, we're always (Ah, yeah)
In the right direction (Now we're in the section), we're always
[Verse 2: Jazzie B & Will]
Well, feed it, nourish it so we can attain it
For maximum potential and then maintain it
(For how long?) Well, forever if possible
Long and strong, non-stoppable
Just like the hands of time (Tick-tock)
And I won't stop, release all that I got
Deep within my soul and forget my inhibitions
Them are taking control (Of what?)
Well, the situation that's in hand, combined it, heh
With this master plan that I've got
Gonna be an adventure of success, you know (Yes)
It's possible of any test
[Chorus: Soul II Soul & Jazzie B]
Moving in the right direction (Ah, yeah), we're always (Come on, come on)
In the right direction (And that's where we're going), we're always (Moving)
Moving in the right direction, we're always
In the right direction (Like a locomotion train)
[Verse 3: Jazzie B & Will]
Well, originated in the mind
And put on paper and defined and refined
Save for later on, John, and I'm long gone
Gonna do what just has to be done
Fulfilling the basic desires
Of all the things that I've had from before
Were fresh and pure
Yeah, I want more (You sure?), yes, I'm sure
[Chorus: Soul II Soul & Jazzie B]
Moving in the right direction, I'm always
In the right direction (Ha), we're always (Come on, come on)
Moving in the right direction (Ah, yeah), we're always (Ha)
In the right direction (In the right direction), we're always
[Verse 4: Jazzie B]
Well, that's a fact, you know, it's plain as black
Because I know that's how I'll develop my inner capabilities
Combined with the mind that has the abilities
To find, well, a better way and you'll see
And in your mind's eye, yeah, we'll all feel free
To achieve all that was above you
You know, ain't nothin' to it but to do it
Well, gaining knowledge, wisdom, overstanding
And all at time, having my feet on solid ground
'Cause in the long run, it will serve you well
Excel, excite, unite and all come together just to make this right
Together as one, you know, under the sun
You wantin', the time is now, heh
You know that the time is coming
[Chorus: Soul II Soul]
Moving in the right direction, we're always
In the right direction, we're always
Moving in the right direction, we're always
In the right direction, we're always
[Outro: Jazzie B]
Moving in the right direction, we're always
(Movement is a section) Ah, yeah
A big request to all the funky dreads international, all over the land
Keep hope alive
And to all those who have the power, cool now, haha
