In a 150 degrees of heat, they fought that gassy blaze

Till it seeped through the walls and the fire doors
To the Hollinger mine nearby
For nearly a thousand miners now, there was no work below
The word came from the office, boys we have to let you go

Must we see our children hungry, must we have to leave the town
Will they have to close the mines up
Bringing trouble strife and woe
Or will they beat the gassy hellfire six thousand feet below

As it died they called the miners, slowly back to work again
