But the marionette pulling the threads was too abrasive

From the many forms of puppeteers that used me for performances

But they're relieved to see that someone else is on the stage
The drivers come in many different and sizes and shapes, sexes, positions, lies, desires and faiths
Regardless if human or not, they have the power to steer
And once controlled by those who hold us we just cower in fear
I see biggest puller here is the American dream
For I believe that it's responsible for toppling me (Why?)
Because it whipped me to go college to acknowledge these things
And currently I'm on the stage of life to follow their dreams
The routine is so crippling. Being pulled to satisfy
Another one's desires while I'm tripping over twisted strings
That's keeping me up all while the puppeteer pulls it
I swear this isn't me and I can't help but feel foolish
Due to those that make me act out and then render me unconscious
Like a black out from a bottle that you swig from til your honest
We're Geppettos but deny it when we're wrong
And the sad truth is that we choose who pulls on our strings all along

Trying to touch the ground while I am left dangling
Been tangled up in blue for so long I look mangled
Feeling anguished from encounters that have left me devastated
With the wires over head I am afraid of strangulation
One time I thought I was free but I found that wasn't true
That's when you talked to me I had felt my body being moved
And my emotions being skewed the way I tried to avoid
That fear of seeing you go by while inside I'm destroyed
This other puppeteer is formless but enormous in size
The only time that it is visible is shown in my eyes
My guise is far gone when I am pulled from up high
When this occurs I lose my words then fall to certain demise
As the curtain arises people flood to the isles
They were idle but now they're hoppy as they dance and they smile
Witnessing my situation eases life for a while
Thinking that it's hunky dory though they're so in denial
You'll be back to your mundane Monday soon
Daydreaming of moving on to maybe some place new
When you pack up all you know and love to go and get gone
Your puppeteer will steer right back to where you belong
