The Contest Lyrics by Tennley Carys

2020

Childhood
A mindless time
Everything was peaches and cream it was all fine
But my imperfections
They were center stage
They said “you’re too ugly, fat,and weird”
It got worse with age
I stole my mother’s lipstick
I grabbed my sister corset
The voice inside my head saying
“Fake it till you make it”
Douse your face in lies and blush
Maybe you’ll be 2nd best
Lose a couple more pounds
Maybe you’ll past the tеst
Throw away yourself and act more cool
They just might bе less cruel
Go along with the contest
“Im worthless”
“I’ll never be enough”
You contemplated giving it up
But they say its a bluff
“you’re just an attention whore, and you’re not really depressed”
Well would they say that if they saw you put your looks above the rest
Douse your face in lies and blush
Maybe it’ll hide the scars
Lose a couple more pounds
Skip some meals, it’s not that hard
Throw away yourself and fake a smile
But you don’t know, just pray a while
Go along with the contest
The mirror was your enemy
But if you come to the truth
You’re beautiful in your own way
And we all love you
Wash off all the lies and blush
Maybe you’ll see yourself
Lose the weight scale
Maybe you’ll feel like yourself
Throw away the fake, and just be you
People might hate, but we love you
Burn down the contest
