Bitter Man Lyrics by The Bacon Brothers

New Year’s Day

2009

There’s a smile on the subway
As the punk gives up his seat
The piano tuner stops her work
To play something sad and sweet
And a bag of rice falls from the sky so today the child will eat
The fighter pushes off the matt and struggles to his feet
But will I become a bitter man
A bitter man with bitter ways
Or will your love make me a bitter man
Shine a brighter light
On these gray days
A boy is bathed in shrapnel in the forgotten western wing
But somewhere behind his blackened eyes
He can hear his mama sing
Yo quiero mi pequeno
How I love my little one
And he dreams he walks in country on
The surface of the sun
So will I become a better man
A better man with bitter ways
Or will your love make me a better man
Shine a brighter light
On these gray days
I am a gray bird on the wing
I drink from hopes eternal spring
Brighter days of thee I sing
Of thee I sing
Oh, oh
Oh, bitter man
A bitter man
Will your love make me a better man
Shine a brighter light
On these gray days
So will I become a bitter man
Oh, a bitter man with bitter ways
Will your love make me a better man
Shine a brighter light
On these gray days
