Push da Button Lyrics by The Color Purple Broadway Cast

The Color Purple (2015 Broadway Cast Recording)

2016

[Harpo] (spoken)
Ladies and gentlemen
I want y'all to fill yo' glasses up
And sit yo' asses down
Cause tonight in
Harpo's Juke Joint
[Ensemble]
Where?
[Harpo]
Harpo's!
We bring you the finest in southern nobility
The Queen Honey Bee
She was born right here
Made it big in Memphis
And now she's come home to sing for y'all
[Ensemble]
Shug Avery
[Shug Avery]
Now there's something 'bout good loving
That all you ladies should know
If you wanna light your man on fire
You gotta start it real slow
Keep on turning up that voltage
Till that man begin to glow
Like you're switchin' on a lightbulb
Watch the juice begin to flow
Now that I got your attention
Here's what you men need to hear:
You want your lady racin' with you
You gotta get her in here
Keep the key to rev her motor
Find the spot she love the best
If you don't know where it is
Give her the stick; she'll do the rest
Push the button
Push the button
You got to push it if you wanna come in
Push the button
Give me somethin'
To let your baby know it ain't no sin
If you wanna feel the train a'comin your way
Baby, push the button and pull the windowshades
Now listen all you redhot lovers
You ought to know what to do
There ain't nothin' wrong with nothin'
That's right, with both of you
So when tonight, you make your lover cry out
Like a lion roar
Tell the neighbors your new kitten found the cream
It's lookin' for
Push the button
Push the button
You got to push it if you wanna come in
Push the button
Give me somethin'
To let your baby know it ain't no sin
If you wanna feel the train a'comin your way
Baby, push the button and pull the windowshades
Come on in
[Shug] (spoken)
Now ladies, I need you to work a little harder, okay?
I want you to reach down and I need you to find your inner Shug, baby
There ya go! There ya go!
[Shug]
Push the button
Push the button
You got to push it if you wanna come in
Push the button
Give me somethin'
To let your baby know it ain't no sin
If you wanna feel the train a'comin your way
Baby, baby
What do ya gotta do?
[Ensemble]
Push the button!
[Shug]
Push the button!
