Down the Old Plank Road Lyrics by The Holy Modal Rounders

The Holy Modal Rounders 2

1965

[Verse 1]
I’d rather be in Richmond with all the hail and rain
Than for to be in Casey wearin' that ball and chain
[Chorus]
I won't get drunk no more, I won't get drunk no more
I’ll never never never get drunk no more, way down the Old Plank Road
[Verse 2]
Friday night my wife died, Saturday she was buried
Sunday was my courtin' day, Monday I got married
[Chorus]
I won't get drunk no more, I won't get drunk no more
I’ll never never never get drunk no more, way down the Old Plank Road
[Verse 3]
Fifteen pounds of meat a week, liquor here to sell
How can a young man stay at home when the pretty girls look so well
[Chorus]
I won't get drunk no more, I won't get drunk no more
I’ll never never never get drunk no more, way down the Old Plank Road
[Verse 4]
Gonna build a scaffold upon the mountain high
So I can see the glorious eagles flying by
[Chorus]
I won't get drunk no more, I won't get drunk no more
I’ll never never never get drunk no more, way down the Old Plank Road
