I’m O.K. Lyrics by The Leaving Trains

The Lump In My Forehead

1992

{parts I couldn't figure out through repeated listening are in curly brackets}
[Verse 1]
Well I just got out of the hospital today
They stitched my wheel stand and said I was O.K
They kicked me out the door with the left foot
And there was the shrink, he was standing by the shrubs
He had a handful of pills and a vile of {??}zene
He stuck a needle into my butt
And then the last thing he said to me was "Boy
Always remember this: "
[Chorus]
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
[Verse 2]
Well I got home, and there was my wife
She was looking pretty fuckin' nice
So I gave her a kiss on the cheek
Then I walked on down the hall and there was my son
He was playin' with some kinda plastic army tank
So I patted him on the head
Then I looked outside, and the grass was lookin' long
So I decided it must need to be cut
And I went into the garage and I pulled the mower out
But it didn't have no gas in it
So I opened up the door to the tool shed
And all I saw was a bottle of Jack
I took one shot, I took two shots
I took eight shots and I was feelin' pretty good
And then I raped my wife in the ass and I slit my son's throat
But it was alright, 'cause I remembered
[Chorus]
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K. K. K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
But you're not
(You're not O.K.)
[Verse 3]
So I went upstairs to find my gun
I lifted up the mattress and there it was
I put the pistol in the palm of my hand
And then I shoved it in the back of my pants
Then I went outside and the sun was up
And the birds were chirpin' and it was nice
And there was Mr. Jones sittin' on his front porch
Sippin' a beer and readin' the Sunday funnies
I said "Hi, Mr. Jones. What's up?"
He said "Hey, Chris. How was the hospital?
Did they fix ya? Did they make you better?
Did they make 'em treat ya right and good
Like they were a king or a prince or a queen?"
I said "Yeah Mr. Jones, one thing they always told me there was to
Express the way I was feeling in that moment."
And so I pulled the pistol out and I shot him in the head
And he fell down into his paper
And then I ran down the street to the Burger King
Or maybe it was a Burger Queen or the Burger Thing
And there were five people standing in line
And I figured 'What the hell, they don't even care about their health!'
So I pointed my pistol at them
And I emptied out the barrel in all o' them
They fell on the floor and then I ran back home
'Cause I was startin' to feel bad for what I did
And then I got in the master bedroom and I tried to string myself up with
Shoelaces, you know?
But the string broke, and all that was left was
A pink ring around my throat
Then I heard the sirens screamin', they were comin' up the street
I think they were comin' for me
And then the tires screeched to a halt and I peaked out of the mini blinds
And what did I see?
It wasn't my mom, but it was my shrink
He had a megaphone, leanin' across the hood of one of them cars
He was sayin' to me
(He said to me)
"Chris, come out of the house
We have you surrounded
We don't wanna hurt ya, we wanna help ya
We wanna be your friends."
Well I wasn't no fool and I waved my pistol in front of the window
I said "You ain't takin' me back to that place
I mean, I'd rather die than go back there
You told me I was fixed and I was straight!"
Well, he was a professional so, you know, he spoke to me with his PhD
He said
"But Chris, don't you remember
How much you loved the drugs we gave you back in the hospital?
I mean, there were the pink ones and the black little hearts
And there were the ones that tasted like candy canes
There were the ones that we fixed in your arm
And the ones that we stuck in your butt."
And then I threw up my arms in the air
I said "Take me in, 'cause I'm yours! I do love drugs!"
And I remembered as I said one last thing
And I shouted at the top of my lungs:
[Chorus]
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K. K. K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K
I'm O.K. K. K
But you're not!
