In the Evening By the Moonlight Lyrics by The Mellomen

Meet Me Down on Main Street

1975

[Chorus]
In the evening by the moonlight
You can hear those voices singing
In the evening by the moonlight
You can hear those banjos ringing
How the old folks would enjoy it
They would sit all night and listen
As we sang in the evening by the moonlight (Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
[Verse]
In the evening by the moonlight
When the day's work was over
We would gather by the fire
'Til the hoecake, it was done
Then we all would eat our supper
After that we'd clean the kitchen
That's the only time we had to spare
To have a little fun
[Chorus]
In the evening by the moonlight
You can hear those voices singing
In the evening by the moonlight
You can hear those banjos ringing
How the old folks would enjoy it
They would sit all night and listen
As we sang in the evening by the moonlight
