Bring a Banana Lyrics by Zach & Maggie

The Elephant in the Room

2023

[Verse 1]
Came from Cameroon about noon to Miami
Met a girl from Cuba and her name is Marie
She told me things were dicey in the Antilles
I told Joseph it was time to leave
Out in Alamo-a-gor-a-do the sand is white
Everyday is sunny and oh so bright
Got a job working for Uncle Sam
That's when everyone started calling me Ham
[Chorus]
I've got a red lever
What does it do?
I've got a green button
But it doesn't call you
Lookin' on those rockets headin' into Havana
Wish I'd remembered to bring a banana
[Verse 2]
I had Cuba on my mind almost everyday
'Cause almost everyone was talking about Fidel and Che
They're making lots of trouble smoking big cigars
Hangin' with their buddies in the USSR
I was busy pushing buttons each and everyday
I turned on the telly and what did they say
Some guys from out of town with nothing to do
They went down to Cuba and had them a coup
[Chorus]
I've got a red lever
What does it do?
I've got a green button
But it doesn't call you
Lookin' on those rockets headin' into Havana
Wish I'd remembered to bring a banana
[Verse 3]
Uncle Sam said everything was ready to go
They shipped me back East down near Orlando
I heard some fellow countdown from 10 to 1
And then they sent me flying into the sun
I was over the Caribbean just looking down
I saw a game of chess just floating around
A pawn, a rook, a bishop, I hope nobody slips
Because we don't what to hear "you sunk my battleship"
[Chorus]
I've got a red lever
What does it do?
I've got a green button
But it doesn't call you
Lookin' on those rockets headin' into Havana
Wish I'd remembered to bring a banana
Khrushchev and Kennedy just monkeying around
I kept my eye on a piece of the ground
A tiny little island overlooking Havana
Perfect spot for me to set me up my own cabana
I finally fell in love and settled down
Got a couple of little ones just hangin' around
I spend my days relaxin' in the island breeze
Munching on bananas watchin' Lancelot Link
[Chorus]
I've got a red lever
What does it do?
I've got a green button
But it doesn't call you
Lookin' on those rockets headin' into Havana
Wish I'd remembered to bring a banana
I've got a red lever
What does it do?
I've got a green button
But it doesn't call you
Lookin' on those rockets headin' into Havana
Wish I'd remembered to bring a banana
