Sitting Here - Blud Line Lyrics by Debris Stevenson

Poet In Da Corner

2020

[Intro: Debris Stevenson]
At university, I studied Byron and Shakespeare
I was taught to analyse their rhyme schemes and flow patterns
As they're considered to be literary masters
But grime, taught me more than the classics
Grime changed my life
More than two first class degrees
It gave me permission to exist
And defined a groundbreaking genre, which I feel, deserves to be recognised as cannon
As foundation, as part of the artistic fabric of this country
I've mimicked the rhyme schemes and flow patterns of tracks on Boy In Da Corner
To tell my story, about the life that grime gifted me
Welcome, to Poet In Da Corner
[Verse 1: Debris Stevenson]
I'm just marching back, to my own yard in Notts
Lived here for time, so I'm used to the cotch
My name's known about, 'cause I teach poetry
Turn up of the kids, ABC to [?]
I'm just checking back, rucksack, pack full of books
Twenty writing jobs, I can buy a macbook
When I was eleven, couldn't read a whole book
But now I'm a professor, teaching my own book
When I reach my row of houses, are narrower than you
Shirtless mandem, a little uncouth
Lounging around, lighting pounds of barbeques
Either sipping pon a magnum or cartons of juice
[Interlude: Debris Stevenson]
All the kids in my street know me
I teach poetry in their school so, they call me "Miss" and spud me
But this week, I've been working 18 hour days and, I just wanna get home
[Verse 2: Debris Stevenson]
Know what this tune reminds me?
Playing at 140 across the beat
Know when the tune revives me?
Quick skank to the beat
Know when the tune defines you?
Still rock Air Force 1's on my feet
Know when the tune directs you?
Yeah, finally I found my keep
I see 'em sittin' there, I see 'em sittin' there
Shiny Pokemon rare
He gives me a stare, from the corner there, a kid's sittin' there
By the bins, by the bins, by the bin
He's just sittin' there
Shiny Pokemon red
He gives me a stare, from the corner there, a kid's sittin' there
By the bins, by the bins, by the bin
By the bin
[Interlude: Debris Stevenson]
So, this kid, must be like 13 years old
He's hiding, in-between the two recycling bins in-front of my house
Looks up at me, "yo miss, is you a rapper from Manchester?"
Sorry, what?
"Is you a rapper from Manchester?"
The whole street, turns from their poundshop barbeques
And Argos paddling pools
How have I, found a kid curled up by the bins outside my yard
And I am the one getting interrogated?
[Verse 3: Debris Stevenson]
He looks straight up at me
Eyes big as Charizard immune
He looks straight up at me
Shoes on shoes
He looks straight up at me
I feel the whole street watching too
He looks straight up at me
He looks straight up at me
Rolls another question through
"Will you do a rap for me miss?"
Haha... umm
He looks at me scared
Like he's got something to prove
She looks at me scared
Last chance at a semblance of cool
He looks at me scared
Kids across goes to his school
She looks at me scared
They snigger and laugh at his shoes
[Interlude: Debris Stevenson]
I want to help him
I wouldn't be standing outside my own yard if nobody had ever helped me
Miss
This kid [?] shit and rubbish, bravery, and oddness
He feels like he needs this, needs me
So, I'm gonna go for it
[Verse 4: Debris Stevenson]
Blud, you will never be the winner
You will get eaten like a microwaved dinner
Don't cry, dry your eye just like Mike Skinner
Don't watch what I'm on, 'cause you're too inner inner
And yeah, nobody wants you here
Blud, so why don't you go elsewhere?
You went to your boys and they gave you air
Just saying what I see, and I'm making it bare
[Outro: Jammz]
Are you mad?
Are you mad?
