It’s A Stupid Idea (To Put On a Broadway Show) Lyrics by Lewberger

The Wizard of Friendship (Original Cast Recording)

2023

[Chorus: Lewberger, All]
It's a stupid idea
To put on a Broadway show
You'll never make back your money
You'll never get people to go
It's a stupid idea
To put on a Broadway show
But we're stupid
So this is our stupid little Broadway song
[Verse 1: Keith, Alex, Hughie & Ensemble, All]
The three of us met in 2015
Sharing a comedy musical dream
Writing songs together we became best friends
The best friends that ever lived
The best friends that ever lived
So we invested two hundred thousand dollars into this
[Verse 2: Lewberger, Alex, Keith, Ensemble]
Dancers and lights, sound technicians
Makeup and tights, cool projections
Staffers and stuffers for tickets and playbills
Will we have enough left for us to pay bills?
Fourteen thousand dollars for an Airbnb
For five of us for just six weeks
Location rental, insurance and costumes
Merchandise shipping so that's why it cost you (Yeah, boy)
Ninety-six dollars from an eighty dollar base price
Taxes and fees make it add up so high
We have to add a meet-and-greet
To make sure we make ends meet
[Chorus: All]
It's a stupid idea
To put on a Broadway show
Critics will say, "Your show's stupid"
We know
It's supposed to be stupid, stupid
A stupid idea
To put on a Broadway show
But we're stupid
So this is our stupid little Broadway song
[Bridge: Lewberger, Ensemble]
It's stupid to hire some dancers to do this
It's stupid to hire some singers to do this
Ooh, stupid, stupid, stupid boys
[Verse three: Lewberger, Ensemble, All]
And you may think that you paid too much
For a show this full of fluff
But we promise you (We promise you)
We promise you (We promise you)
We're not charging you enough
[Chorus: Lewberger, Ensemble, All]
It's a stupid idea (Stupid idea, stupid idea)
To put on a Broadway show
You'll never make back your money
And no one will think you're funny, honey
A stupid idea (So very stupid)
A stupid idea (Dumb, so stupid)
This is our stupid little
Off-Off-Broadway show
Broadway show
Broadway show, show, show, show, show
Show
