$711 Lyrics by Gabe Heller

Everybody Thinks I’m Dave

2007

For it's 711 dollars
That I owe the county of Ramsay
The collection service in PA informed me yesterday
For that's how much it costs them to dispose of my old junker
That I still dreamed is [?] 50 feet from the junk yard
I suppose you might say it was a nuisance to the neighbors
That rusty junker sitting with a couple pieces gone
With a hunder tonnes of rustry scrap
Just there around the corner
Well, another tonner so is just a tonner so too far
It couldn't have occurred to them
Just what were my intentions
I had just a few morе spare parts that I wanted to removе
But the [?] said they might have it crushed within the hour
So I waited for just one more day before I drove it there
Ah but this was Minnesota
Minnesota in the winter
And the blizzards of the north don't take your plans into account
So for three days I returned to that spot
Every 12 hours
For to transport my old junker 'round the corned and back again
Now it had a vacuum leak
And a mighty dodgy motor
At 33 degrees below to start it was a feat
And when at last the parts were off the time came to dispose of it
The battery was drained, my boys, the battery was drained
And I had other business
Elsewhere within the city
'Twas two or so more days I returned with it recharged
But the tow trucks wait for no man, and they didn't wait for me, man
And they keep the cars before me and they took that car away
And they towed it miles and miles
Away from that old junkyard
And miles and miles away from any use it might have had
I might have sold as scrap to benefit some veterans
It might have added some months of life to some old folk's [?]
But no, instead it ended up
At Buckley's car auction
Down by the Mississippi
Out on [?] Channel Road
And maybe someone bought it, even though the dash was missing
More likely it's still rusting there, no use to anyone
So from this lengthy ballad
I hope that you learned something
Don't leave your rusty junker
In so obvious a place
No captain of police to see their nose before their faces
Or some [?] in PA is sure to track you down
And it will be 711 dollars that you owe the county of Ramsay
For towing your old junker miles and miles across the town
And miles and miles away from anyone who might have used it
You'll find you are the one who pays for their stupidity
