The Tree On The Hill (Original) Lyrics by Original Cast of The Lightning Thief Musical

The Lightning Thief Musical (1 Hour Version)

2014

[GROVER]
The tree on the hill
At the top of the hill
Watches over us
Silent and still
And I know I won't be safe until
I can see the tree on the hill
(spoken)
The first time I saw it, I was escorting Annabeth and two other half-bloods. One was Luke. You didn't know. He and Annabeth have a history
[PERCY]
And the other one?
[GROVER]
Her name was Thalia Grace. Tough girl. Like her father, Zeus
[PERCY]
I thought I was the only kid of the Big Three
[GROVER]
You are now
[ANNABETH]
Grover, which way?
[GROVER]
Uh, this way! Wait, wait, is that north? Let's see. Never eat shredded wheat
[ANNABETH]
Guys, what was that?
[CYCLOPS]
I smell half-bloods!
[GROVER]
That'll be a cyclops. Ahh! Cyclops!
[ALL]
Run!
[GROVER]
(sung)
The tree on the hill
At the top of the hill
Where we ran and fought
With speed and skill
But nothing could slake its wrathful will
We had to reach the tree on the hill
(spoken)
The Cyclops is catching up!
[THALIA]
Then someone needs to slow it down. Get the others to safety
[GROVER]
No! I'm not leaving you behind!
[THALIA]
My father is Zeus. He won't let me die
[GROVER]
No!
(sung)
The tree on the hill
At the top of the hill
Where a cold wind blew
Dark and chill
No saving grace
As they came for the kill
[PERCY]
(spoken)
So, what happened?
[GROVER]
That's when Zeus showed up
[PERCY]
Saved her, right?
[GROVER]
It was too late for that. As she died, he turned her into a tree. That tree! So she could stand protecting us forever, the way that I couldn't do for her
[ANNABETH]
Thalia?
[LUKE]
We won't forget you. We promise
[GROVER, ANNABETH, & LUKE]
(sung)
The tree on the hill
At the top of the hill
Protects us all and always will
[GROVER]
And it's there reminding me
Of all I failed to be
The tree on the hill
