Shackles Lyrics by Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics

State of All Things

0

(Verse 1)
Black & White
And in between
The second one
From the left of me
Has cross hairs
On his forehead
Because the color
Of his skin
Who's picking the shade
Of this chosen race?
Whose thinking that they
Got something else to say
Well I’m ready and I'm hungry
For that super sized ounce of change
(Chorus)
These shackles move in circles
And from side to side
They still tying us down
They still tying us down
These shackles move in circles
Round and round
They still holding us down
Lawd, we need
Higher ground
(Verse 2)
It ain't how “they”
Tell it now
How tragic it looks
How foul it smells
Dying in vain
Has a stench no man can shake
Lingers for weeks
Can get no relief
Is it hopeless for us
Can we all just focus?
I’m ready and Im willing
To make my noise and take some names
(Chorus)
These shackles move in circles
And from side to side
They still tying us down
They still tying us down
These shackles move in circles
Round and round
They still holding us down
Lawd, we need
Higher ground
(Instrumental portion)
(Bridge)
Never close
To giving in
The harder we bleed
The more they’ll dig in
These shackles with time
Will rust and divide
These shackles with time
Can keep no man in line
Can't keep us line
Oh these shackles
(Chorus)
These shackles move in circles
And from side to side
They still tying us down
They still tying us down
These shackles move in circles
Round and round
They still holdin me down
Lawd, we need
Higher ground, OHHH
