Osage Oracle Lyrics by Strange Philosophies

Magnolia Mythology

2023

There were stories told
Of Etta hiding in that home
Of hiding places, bloodstained floors
And Indian arrows
There were stories still
Of the Baughman family killed
The sole survivor, in the will
Inherited a mansion on a hill
And I was just a kid
Climbing up the Osage Orange
That sat outside Fort Harrod
A sign beside a grave
I read the words
It said the birth
Of our first white child
We celebrate
I bet the mansion's base
Was laid down by his dozen slaves
Never learn their given names
The ones who finally escaped
And I am trapped with John
On this side of the tree he's drawn
There's nothing else
There is no song
That I can sing to break free from his wrongs
I wonder if he knows
That property
Can't free itself
It can't just get up and go
I wonder if he hears
The voices from the Osage tree
Whispering dissent in his ears
Henry
Is it coming through
From the other side of the split trunk?
I'm talking to you
Jonathan
Is it coming through
From the other side of the split trunk?
I'm talking to you
The Osage oracle will give news you find horrible
Your son shot down on while on the streets
I want to see you mourn and weep
You'll weep
