[EDNA]
They just love you ‘cause you’re famous but I don’t care
I see past the branding, I see past the—
(spoken)
Hair
(sung)
I see a different person hiding in plain sight
And at first I might sound crazy, but you’ll see that I’m right
[HARRY] (spoken)
About what love?
[EDNA]
I know about your meds. I know you feel lost
[HARRY] (spoken)
Howja’ know that love?
[EDNA] (spoken)
They’re using you like a puppet and don’t think of the cost
[HARRY] (spoken)
Who’s ‘they’?
[EDNA] (spoken)
But how can you break free when everyone knows you?
[HARRY] (spoken)
…Right?
[EDNA] (spoken)
The only option, is to run. Become. Brand. New
[HARRY] (spoken)
What do you mean ‘run’?
[EDNA] (spoken)
Think it through
No matter how much you want to quit
The fans will never quit you
(sung)
But you don’t have to live as others decide
In hiding we’ll finally have nothing to hide
(spoken)
You’re not trapped anymore Harry
[HARRY] (spoken)
So… I can go?
[EDNA] (spoken)
No! I mean, now you’re free
[HARRY] (spoken)
Free to ….go?
[EDNA] (spoken)
No I mean, you were trapped. In the band. Right? But now you’re—
[HARRY] (spoken)
But... I am trapped. I’m like… tied up?
[EDNA] (spoken)
I mean, technically… yes – but you will be free when we go… on the run
[HARRY] (spoken)
But… how would we go… “on the run?"
We’d need… money, we’d need transport, we’d need—
[EDNA]
—We’d need: hair dye, keys to the car
Protein bars, spare sim cards
Oh, this is a fake baby so everyone believes that we’re
… actually a couple. Um
Vitamins, knives, bribes for the police
Tea bags. ziplocks
Makeup, mace spray, multiple wigs
Some shower flip flops
I got fake noses, plastic ponchos
In case it rains, Panadols for aches and pains
I got a whole first aid kit, fake tattoos
Raisins, almonds, tiny shampoos
[HARRY] (spoken)
How did you figure this all out?
[EDNA] (spoken)
…. the internet?
[HARRY] (spoken)
But where did you— how did you get all this stuff?
[EDNA] (spoken)
How did I afford it?
(sung)
I’ve never been rich
Like you, I’m a scholarship kid
But I knew I had to save you
So I did what I had to
‘Cause the chances you don’t take
Are the monsters that you make
So I scraped, and I saved
And I did steal some stuff
Including the van
Which I taught myself to drive
Which wasn’t easy. To do. Off YouTube
[HARRY] (spoken)
I think that officially makes you my biggest fan
[EDNA] (spoken)
I’m not a— crazy fan—Harry. I did this to save you from the fans
[HARRY] (spoken)
But I love the fans—
[EDNA] (spoken)
Your life? Being told what to do all the time?
Look, I know you’re not used to admitting it to anyone Harry but I know how you feel… and I know what it’s like
[HARRY] (spoken)
What’s it like?
[EDNA]
I know you think we live opposite lives
On opposite sides of this rock
But I know—
[HARRY] (spoken)
Rock?
[EDNA] (spoken)
…As in…the earth? As in the rock is the …earth. It’s a metaphor?
[HARRY] (spoken)
Oh! Yeah! Right! Sorry, go ahead
[EDNA] (spoken)
I was just saying, I know you think we’re different but—
(sung)
I know what it feels like to be under pressure
To wish that it all would just stop
To have no real friends
No one you can trust
Your mum’s hopes are on your shoulders
But you’ll never be enough
To feel like you’re half alive
Like you’re swallowing a scream
While everyone tells you
Who you should try to be
Don’t you wish that you could just break free?
[HARRY] (spoken)
Mhmm
(spoken)
…Then why not? Let’s just… go
[HARRY] (spoken)
… Okay
You’re right
Let’s go
(sung)
Fake smiles, tight chest “living the dream”
But really dreamt of just running, from the sea of screams
I guess I never realised, that I don’t have to live this lie
[EDNA] (spoken)
Um. Keep going
[HARRY]
But now I see life could be so much more
Been trapped so long, and now I see a door
[EDNA] (spoken)
Um that was really sudden
(sung)
Are you sure?
[HARRY]
I can’t believe I didn’t see before
[EDNA]
…Are you really sure?
[HARRY]
How could I have been so wrong? I give you all my trust
‘Cause now the only real thing
Is us
[EDNA] (spoken)
What!?
[HARRY] (sung)
Is us
[EDNA]
Oh my god… Oh my god… OH MY GOD!?
[HARRY]
Just us, just us, never let you go
[HARRY & EDNA]
Is us. Us. Just us. U—
[EDNA] (spoken)
HARRY!
