Laura: Hello and welcome to The Neurodivergent Teens Podcast.
This is our first episode in which we are going to
introduce ourselves and talk about what you can
look forward to in this series.

Laura: So let’s introduce ourselves….
My name’s Laura Kerbey, I’m the founder of PAST
I’m an autism and education consultant, and I’ve been
working with neurodivergent young people for coming up 23 years.
I am a late diagnosed neurodivergent woman.
And in this podcast, I’m going to be acting as
the host and interviewer.
Kirsty: My name’s Kirsty. I’m a 20-year-old student currently studying
business management with law. I have a
couple jobs: I work as a youth mentor for PAST;
I'm an administrative assistant for a glamping company;
and I'm currently working full time as a HR intern for my placement year.
I got diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia when I was 18.
It's been lifechanging and a massive adjustment, I'm still getting used to.
I can't wait to co-host this podcast
and hopefully support someone else through their neurodiversity.
Lila: My name is Lila and I am a 20-year-old teaching assistant,
as well as a former musician, and I will be
presenting with Kirsty, Laura, and with Sam
to help communicate our experiences with neurodiversity.
I was diagnosed with ADHD just two years ago,
and since then I have changed a lot about
how I go through my life to improve it and sort
of deal with the challenges of being
neurodiverse in a world that isn't quite built for people like us.
I have a strong, strong need to deal with things as they come up
and be in charge of my own life
which is something that hopefully we can communicate in this podcast.
Sam: And my name is Sam, I'm a 17-year-old producer, musician, and singer songwriter,
known as Avid Beats. I’m the editor, audio mixer and masterer,
music provider, and graphic designer in this podcast.
You may also find me featuring in future episodes.
I was diagnosed autistic when I was 14,
when I was going through a period of depression and anxiety.
I have a strong desire for autonomy
and love to work and learn in a collaborative way.
Since I was diagnosed, I've been gaining much more of
an understanding of my needs and I'm able to listen to my feelings.
All: We are neurodivergent!

Laura: We want to inspire young neurodivergent people, specifically teenagers.
Kirsty: Whether this be our own experiences,
the fun and intriguing range of topics we have in store,
or, featuring special guests to talk to about specific subjects.
Sam: This podcast is made by young people, for young people.
Lila: Topics that we will cover include:
special interests, to school and education;
the neurodiversity “spectrum”, to social situations;
mental health, to family life, and much more in-between.
Sam: We will present both the positives and challenges
of being neurodivergent, in a real, authentic, and fresh way.
Laura: And the idea of this podcast came about after
Lila, Kirsty and I ran our programme for neurodivergent teens.
We realised then that some teens might prefer
listening to a podcast, so this is for you.

Laura: We will be releasing new episodes every two weeks,
and our podcast will be available on major streaming platforms,
just like the one you are listening to us on now.
