I remember when demons were screamin’ in my head
And my habit had to have it
Didn’t care if I was dead
Knew the scriptures—I could quote ‘em
Almost like I wrote ‘em
But I’d rather have the world instead
I’m the reason my Savior bled
I remember when sin kept knockin’ at my door–
Said I wouldn’t let him in, but I’ve said it all before
I kept yielding to temptation just for moments of sensation
Didn’t have a destination—I was lost
I’m the reason He hung on the cross
I remember when my friends had control of me
I even compromised my Christianity
I was in the world and of it
Though He told me not to love it, I gave in
I’m the reason for the nails in His hands
I remember when Sunday was just another day
I’d get all dressed up for worship
But, my worship was in vain
In the flesh, there I was sitting
But, my spirit wasn’t giving Him the praise
I’m the reason they put Him in the grave
I remember when I wasn’t concerned about my soul
Said I’d live a righteous life before I got too old
Though I knew what Jesus told me
Almost let the devil own me like a slave
I’m the reason He rose from the grave
And He’s the reason I changed my “old ways”
The “new me” gives Him all the praise
O God, my God
Now I see—
What a mighty work You’ve done for me
You’ve freed me from captivity
I’m sanctified and I’m free
I need your power—I need your saving grace
Or the devil will devour me
Increase my faith
Sanctify me, O Lord
Fill my cup
And if I fall into sin, Lord, pick me up
