Drawing a Dark Way
Jason goes back to his cell and gets the idea to draw a dragon in the dirt to try to summon it. The guards are drunk but they still get suspicious of what they're doing since Jason and Kenna are trying to cover up Naja's task of bringing dirt into the cell by putting their backs to the guards and shielding him from their eyes. Kenna decides to kiss Jason to distract the guards, and it works. After saving Ty, all 4 escape onto the dragon. When they're over a forest, the dragon starts to disappear and they crash into a lake. Ty takes them deeper into the woods. They talk about plans on how to get to Dago, and decide completely relying on Jason's power is a bad idea since it's unreliable. Jason goes to sleep, but doesn't sleep that well, and when he wakes up he's moody.

Drawing a Dark Way
Jason starts using anger to fuel his power, which makes him moody the entire time his group is traveling. They decide to use an owl to get to Derra, a woman that had taken care of Kenna when she was younger. The group gets outfitted there and meets Captain Corin. When Jason tells Corin about his power, Corin agrees to sail to Dago's territory for him. Soon though, after he tells Jason's group about how he lost a friend and his wife to a big storm in the ocean, trying to get the to protected island of gold within, Corin poisons Kenna and forces Jason to draw him a powerful boat. Using the boat, they all sail to the island and are almost there, when the boat starts to fade and Jason draws a hot air balloon just in time. Corin is lost in the storm and soon Jason's group is past the storm and lands on the island.

Drawing a Dark Way
On the island, Jason and group meet the natives, which are some humanoid creatures made of sand. They discuss what to do with the intruders, and ultimately Jason and co. are saved by a lone native, Eldo, who wants to hear their story, since the rest of the natives would rather kill them. Eldo takes the group to Varani, a man who washed up on the island and is also insane. Eldo says that his healing powers can help Varani stay sane for some time, but when they get to his living space they have a hard time catching Varani to heal him of his madness. Eventually Jason helps calm him down a bit and then Varani knocks himself against his boat on accident, so Eldo can finally heal him. Then they all sit down and discuss what to do next.

Varani tells Jason more about his family. It turns out that Dago the tyrant is his uncle from his mother's side. His mother was originally from this world, and she, Dago, and Varani were all orphans from the war. Dago and Jason's mother wanted to stop the war, and soon became obsessed with it. Dago became even more obsessed and when Jason's mother or Varani couldn't take it, they escaped. Jason's mother drew the portal to Earth and left, while Varani went back to try to talk sense into Dago. It didn't work and he ended up running away, and being stuck on the Island of Gold.

Drawing a Dark Way
Soon the group plus Varani and Eldo are flying in a ship using Varani's power. It's all going well until they enter Dago's territory and a cannonball hits them. They have a crash landing and Varani is badly hurt. They run away from the natives, but one of them kidnaps Kenna. Jason gets Ty to try hitting her abductor. Ty hits him, but when the abductor drops Kenna, she rolls all the way back to the group, breaking her leg in the process. They all get into a cave that ends in a dead end, but Eldo uses his powers to close off the end with snow. His sand gets wet in the process though, and before he dies he uses all his power to cure Varani of his madness. That night in the cave Jason decides to leave by himself to Dago since he doesn't want his friends to get hurt anymore.
