Drawing a Dark Way
Naja comes along with Jason to Dago's castle, and when they get they he leads the way. He tells Jason to wait for him and when he comes back, Naja leads Jason to a cell, where it is revealed that Naja betrayed Jason. They are both thrown into jail and locked up by Dago. We find out that Dago threatened Naja into tricking Jason by threatening to kill Naja's family. Soon Emily is brought out, and Dago gives Jason the choice of saving her if he kills Naja. After a stand-off, Jason decides he can't kill Naja and Emily is thrown in the cell with them. After what feels like hours of whistling, they manage to call Lenore, who breaks the metal bars of the cell and leads them to the outside of a tower. Jason and Emily jump off the building while Jason summons an owl, and when they're about to be caught Ty comes with the rest of the group and they manage to escape.

A Crack in the Sky
Eli is a member of the Papadopoulos and is studying with Dr. Toffler, a robot, to help with the company one day. He lives in a dome since, in the present time, the world is too hard to live, with droughts and harsh storms and so on. He's looking the window during lessons, when he sees a piece of the sky projected on the dome he lives under break. He tries to tell Dr. Toffler, but the robot ignores him since Eli has been frequently talking about abnormalities with the dome and the robot just thinks it's his attempts to get out of lessons. Eli decides to take matters into his own hands this time, and sneaks out by telling the robot that he needs to use the bathroom. He grabs his brother's spyglass camera and goes out the door with his mongoose Marilyn.

Breadcrumbs
Tyler tells Hazel that when he went to go sledding with Jack, he saw him go into the woods with an unnatural looking women that seemed to be made of snow. Tyler apologized for being mean to Hazel but begged her to listen to him, because she was the only one that would ever believe him. When Hazel gets home she packs a bag to go into the woods and get Jack. In the woods, she walks for a bit before spotting a wolf. All the wolf does is stare at her, and soon she's in front of a stripped down grandfather clock. Two ravens are perched above her, staring at her, and when she asks for a path to go onto, they point her north.

Breadcrumbs
Hazel finds a swan's skin and tries it on, thinking that it might turn her into a swan. When it doesn't work, she gets angry and throws it in the lake, but the witch that owns the skin finds her and asks her where it is and threatens her. Hazel runs away and a boy called Ben helps by hiding her in his cabin. After the witch is gone, he tells Hazel a little bit more about the forest and the White Witch that kidnapped Jack. It turns out that Ben himself is there because he ran away from home with his sister. They were taken in by a couple, but one day while Ben was out, they turned his sister into a bird and tried to get Ben to leave. Ben and his sister who-isn't-a-human-anymore ran away from them, but Ben expects to be found again, which is why he has a rifle. He points Hazel in the direction of the White Witch and wishes her good luck.
