A Crack in the Sky
When Eli is almost to the place where he saw the pixels in the dome go out, he meets a Guardian and realizes that his parents must already know he's skipping lessons. The Guardian girl chases him, and to get away from her Eli goes into a restricted area. He finds the area where he thinks the dome broke, but when he gets there he doesn't find any evidence and decides that the cleaning robots already took care of the debris. He's about to take his spyglass off the ground, but it's no where to be found. He sees the bushes shake and finds a trap door. Eli decides that someone took his spyglass and went in there, so he follows. The tunnel gets so narrow he has to start crawling, but soon he finds a small open area, tall enough for him to stand up in. He doesn't find his spyglass, but he does find an ancient copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass.

A Crack in the Sky
Eli concludes that an Outsider, someone that lives outside the domes and in the harsh-environment of the post-apocalyptic world, lives in the place he just discovered. A person walks towards him before he can leave, and he realizes that it's an outsider since he has sun-damaged skin. Eli runs for it, and the first thing he does home is call his mother on his CloudNet sphere to talk about how an outsider might have infiltrated the dome.

A Crack in the Sky
Eli's mother and Uncle Hector tell him to start paying more attention to his lessons because their company will take care of all the problems. His mother is about to assign some catch up work with Dr. Toffler, the robot, but Sebastian, Eli's older brother by 1 year, suggests that he helps Eli catch up. Eli realizes that he's only doing this so that he can get on Uncle Hector's good side, but he's still grateful to not take lessons with Dr. Toffler. Eli turns one last time to the CloudNet Sphere to talk to his mother and uncle, and asks them why an Outsider would live under the dome. Uncle Hector says not to worry about Outsiders' logic, though.
