Our Race
What is happening to our race?
Many of the problems we face, we cause
Oh, we can applaud our accomplishments
But history also represents our mistakes
“You know what I’m saying—I’ll do what it takes to get mine”
A phrase that’s self-defined
One prisoner, one user, one moral abuser at a time
Integrity? Declined.
Work an honest job?
Get robbed by your own brother
And where is that mother who took care of her kids and the neighbor’s?
She didn’t charge for favors—she cared
And what happened to that father who dared let circumstances
Ruin his chances of being head of household?
Truth be told
We only lose when we chose the wrong priorities
Lettin’ the world usurp God’s authority
Being ruled by pleasures
Laying up for ourselves treasures on earth
Being the minority—even in Christ!
Worrying about our own life
And where is that child who opts not to run wild because they know it’s wrong?
Not totally blaming the school system and the home
But, taking responsibility for their own choices when they’re old enough to ignore voices
That try lead them in the wrong direction
What’s happening to our race?
We won’t pass the baton—we won’t pick up the pace
And those in the lead allow too much space tryna get recognition for first place
Let’s not pretend one person can win
