Remember the times
If you've been around six decades or more
This poem may be about YOU
Now, I don't mean no harm
I’m just tryna tell the truth
I did some investigatin'
And this is what I found
Some of the stuff that's happening today is coming BACK around
First, let's look at the fashions that the ladies used to wear
They were sharper than a tack—from their shoes, up to their hair
They used to wear those 'short-shorts' we call 'em 'daisy-dukes'
Back then they called 'em 'hot pants' and wore 'em with Go-Go boots
They wore those tight-knit bell-bottoms with the matching halter tops
Sometimes they'd take the front of their shirt and tie it in a knot
They wore those dressy business suits with fur around the collar
Matching purse, high-heel shoes, lookin’ like a million dollars
We can't forget the men—they would dress too cool
If they wore a black and white suit
They wore black and white shoes
They wore those big pointed collar shirts
They had 'bling bling' around their neck
They'd leave about four buttons undone to show a little hair on their chest
They had that Malcom X perm—the one with the lye
They'd grease their hair, slick it down, and look like Superfly!
Now, I don’t mean no harm—I’m just tryna keep it real
Back in the day they almost wore grills
Gold teeth were ‘in’ back then
They'd have their real teeth taken out and put the gold ones in!
And then there was the music—which hasn't really changed
The lyrics weren't quite as bold, but the message was still the same
B.B. King talked about it when he sang the blues
Smokey Robinson acted like he was on a cruise
Al Green said he was “tired of being alone”
And Marvin Gaye said “let's get it on"
And somebody sang a song called "Me and Mrs. Jones"
Last but not least remember the fancy cars
They didn't have spinners they had curb feelers and white walls
Convertibles were popular and those long Cadillacs
The ones with the sunroof tops and the diamond in the back
There’s nothing new under the sun
Remember the times, remember the fun
