The house outside, in
I’m going to describe my house the best way that I can
I’m walking like an old lady and looking like an old man
My face is multicolored: light brown, dark brown, and black
I barely have any hair in the front and even less in the back
My skin is dry and ashy—especially my hands
At times I appear as limp as a rubber band
My clothes are not that stylish—I have a medical wardrobe
I don’t necessarily have to match—just keep from getting cold
Out of the house each morning, back in the afternoon
At my doctor’s office, I have my very own room
The doctor takes my blood every day to check out my insides
He gives me medication—he helps keep me alive
I’m thankful for the doctors—they do have good intentions
But there are parts of me that the doctor never mentions
He’s never checked my spirit
He’s never checked my soul
I’m blessed to understand that he does not make me whole
He is not my Creator, he’s not how I’m sustained
The doctor’s not the reason that I have life again
But, it’s the Holy Spirit that is housed within
The Holy Spirit keeps me full of love, patience, joy, and peace
So, look past that first description and see the real me
I’m thankful for the doctors and all they help they give
But, to God be the glory—He’s the reason that I live!
